CICO, a Chinese construction firm, has won a $100m (over sh200b) contract to upgrade the Fort Portal-Bundibugyo-Lamia road.
The Government is funding the project with support from the African Development Bank.
It will take 36 months to complete.
About $84m will be spent on the actual construction and the balance will be used to compensate the people that will be affected by the project, and on supervision.
President Yoweri Museveni, while commissioning the works at Karugutu SSS in Ntoroko district recently, asked the locals to embrace the Prosperity-For-All programme if they are to benefit from the road and electricity in the district.
�You should ensure that you have something to sell because the road will make your district more accessible to the market,� said Museveni. He advised farmers not use the tarmac road to dry cassava and beans.
Gauff, a German firm, will supervise the project, according to Dan Alinange, the Uganda National Roads Authority spokesman. |
