A team of forensic experts are yet to identify the cause of the fire that gutted a room in a hostel in Mukono district, killing two Uganda Christian University students.

Six experts from the Government analytical laboratory yesterday returned to the scene and got more samples in bid to resolve the mystery behind the Wednesday fire.

Mukono Police boss Aliphonsi Musoni yesterday said it was still too early to tell the cause of the fire in which Alex Kisakye and his lover Harriet Atugonza died.

But sources said following reports of a loud bang moments before the room went up in flames, the experts will investigate whether an accelerant (fuel) could have been used in the incident.

The charred bodies were recovered from a wooden single-bed.

By the time of the fire, the metallic door of the room where the lovers had been staying was locked from inside.

The fire broke out shortly after they entered their room in the afternoon, according to an eyewitness.

The lovers were third-year students of Bachelor of Business Administration.
