Heels oust Noles

GREENSBORO -- North Carolina hung tough on the boards, made its free throws and outlasted a physical Florida State team on Friday night, pulling out a taxing 78-65 women's basketball victory at Greensboro Coliseum.

The No. 6 Tar Heels (24-7), who ended the regular season with a four-game losing streak, have awakened in the ACC tournament, upsetting the No. 3 seed Seminoles and advancing to the semifinals for the 26th time in program history. They will face No. 2 seed Miami today at 3:30 p.m.

"They've got the best two players in the league," UNC coach Sylvia Hatchell said of the Hurricanes' Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams. "We'll have our hands full."
