Shedding a tear (or two) for Miami Heat’s CryGate

So I can't, for the life of me, understand why my colleagues in the media are boo-hoing over a few Miami Heat players misting in the locker room after an embarrassing loss. Wait, wait. Maybe I do understand. Maybe CryGate, as the incident is now being called, is not about sports at all — or about game tactics or team preparation or coming through in the clutch — but about masculinity and what we expect from men in public.

CryGate started after the Heat's razor-thin loss to the Chicago Bulls. I didn't watch the game in its entirety but followed it through the shouts and groans wafting from the TV room. (Which, by the way, is its own column. Why do the menfolk in my life get so worked up over a missed jump shot but are completely listless when I talk budgets and help around the house?)
