Botswana’s Population increasing at a steady rate over the past 30 years

Botswana's overall population has steadily increased since the first population and housing census from 596 994 in 1971 to 1 680 863 in 2001. According to reports from BOPA, the figures were revealed during the Jwaneng District population and housing publicity day by the Jwaneng Deputy   District Commissioner Mr Bakuedi Masole. Speaking about the census slogan, "My count a guide to development" Masole said it is has been adopted as an indication that the census provides baseline data needed in development guidelines meant to improve the livelihoods of the people.

He said that the data obtained from the census will provide socio economic and demographic data to be used for development planning, policy and programme formulation and monitoring and evaluation frameworks as well constituency delimitation which will be for immediate use.
