Draru case adjourned to August 22

The High Court sitting in Kampala has adjourned to August 22 the case where Ms Lydia Draru alias Atim is accused of killing former army commander Maj Gen James Kazini.

Ms Draru, who confessed to killing Maj. Gen. Kazini, appeared before Justice Monica Mugenyi at her maiden High Court appearance yesterday and she was remanded to Luzira Prison until August 22 when she is expected before the court to take plea.

Being a capital offence, the State provided her with a lawyer, Ms Annet Mutabingwa, to defend her during the trial. The relatives of the late Kazini did not appear at court to monitor the court proceedings though three of Ms Draru's relatives showed up.

Prosecution alleges that Ms Draru hit Maj. Gen. Kazini with an iron bar on the head and killed him on November 10, 2009 at her home in Wabigalo, Makindye Division in Kampala.
