Evans moving in for kill: Delgado

PINEROLO, Italy: A sure sign that Cadel Evans is best positioned among the favourites to win the Tour de France is that he is not ''dead'' at the end of every stage.

That is the view of Spain's 1988 Tour champion, Pedro Delgado, who says Evans (BMC) is the strongest rider among the overall contenders and that it will take a Herculean effort from defending champion Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-SunGard) and the Luxembourg brothers Andy and Frank Schleck (Leopard-Trek) to stop the Australian claiming his prize on the Champs Elysees in Paris on Sunday.

While impressed by the efforts of Contador to keep his hopes of a fourth Tour win alive, Delgado has been captivated by the unfolding drama. ''Alfred Hitchcock would be a good director of this race - suspense at the highest level,'' he said.
